Cargo Insurance
Cargo insurance is primarily offered to freight forwarders providing comprehensive cargo handling services. It is also recommended for businesses that bear the risk of loss, shortage, or damage to cargo or are required to obtain such insurance due to trade contracts or banking requirements.
Properly arranged cargo insurance protects the interests of the owner of the transported goods. It ensures compensation for any events that may result in damage to or loss of the cargo. Cargo insurance also safeguards the cargo owner in cases where the carrier or freight forwarder is not legally liable for damages to the entrusted cargo. Moreover, the liability of these entities is typically subject to financial or weight-based limitations imposed by various regulations or conventions. Cargo insurance, however, provides compensation up to the full amount of the loss.
In maritime transport, cargo insurance based on international institute cargo clauses additionally covers the costs of general average and salvage operations.
By offering comprehensive cargo handling services along with insurance, freight forwarders enhance the quality and competitiveness of their services.
